Machine tools and machining centers use cam followers in mechanisms where the surrounding structure is usually rigid and dimensionally defined: automatic tool changers, indexing systems and other auxiliary cam motions. The application plan moves the screening window to the larger EP-KR47 through EP-KR90 sizes and emphasizes high static load, rigidity and repeatable positioning. That does not mean the largest size is automatically best; it means the machine drawing and radial-duty envelope should lead the selection.
Why the larger EP-KR sizes are the starting point
Tool-change and indexing mechanisms can be sensitive to deflection at the follower/track interface. The stud seat, mounting face and surrounding structure should be treated as part of the load path.
the application guidance assigns EP-KR47 to EP-KR90 to machine-tool/ATC applications. Actual load capacity still requires a confirmed engineering basis because the source basic-load table does not show its unit.
A follower replacement should preserve the geometric relationship between stud, outer ring and cam path. Check shoulder position and contact pattern before assuming the old code alone is sufficient.
Large-size dimensional ladder
| EP model | D* (mm) | Stud thread | Speed reference | Machine-tool selection role |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| EP-KR47 / EP-KRV47 | 47 | M20×1.5 | 7,000 rpm | Entry point of the machine-tool range in the application plan. |
| EP-KR52 / EP-KRV52 | 52 | M20×1.5 | 7,000 rpm | Same listed thread as EP-KR47 with a larger outer diameter. |
| EP-KR62 / EP-KRV62 | 62 | M24×1.5 | 6,500 rpm | Larger envelope for more substantial cam or indexing mechanisms. |
| EP-KR72 / EP-KRV72 | 72 | M24×1.5 | 6,500 rpm | Further increase in track diameter while retaining the M24×1.5 listed thread. |
| EP-KR80 / EP-KRV80 | 80 | M30×1.5 | 5,000 rpm | Heavy physical envelope; confirm available mounting space and track geometry. |
| EP-KR85 / EP-KRV85 | 85 | M30×1.5 | 5,000 rpm | Large option in the same listed thread group. |
| EP-KR90 / EP-KRV90 | 90 | M30×1.5 | 5,000 rpm | Upper end of the EP-KR / EP-KRV size range. |
ATC and machining-center replacement checklist
State whether the follower is in an ATC cam, indexing unit, guard or another auxiliary mechanism. A machine drawing is especially valuable for larger sizes.
Check D*, C, D1, stud thread and the B/B1/B2/B3 dimensions. Mounting access and shoulder location often decide whether a physically similar part will install correctly.
If the old part failed after a jam, tool-change collision or repeated impact, include the event description and track photos. Replacing the follower without addressing the impact source may repeat the failure.
If the machine shows tool-change positioning errors or inconsistent contact, note the symptom. It may indicate track, alignment or mechanism wear outside the bearing itself.
Match the bearing to the ATC or cam mechanism
Send the old model, quantity, main dimensions, machine model/mechanism, drawing and any known radial load or impact condition. We will compare the larger EP-KR47 to EP-KR90 envelope without guessing at missing load-rating units.
