Operating conditions that deserve attention

High cycle count

Long running hours can reveal small alignment, lubrication or surface-condition problems over time. Record cycle speed and whether motion is continuous, oscillating or indexing.

Lint and dust exposure

Fine textile debris can accumulate around the track and stud area. Describe guarding, cleaning intervals and whether contamination reaches the rolling contact.

Grease retention

If the mechanism has limited relubrication access, note the service interval and any evidence of grease leakage or drying at the removed follower.

Use the wear pattern as maintenance information

A textile-machine follower that becomes noisy or develops a polished band is useful evidence. Compare the outer-ring wear with the mating track, look for packed lint around the contact path and note whether the stud remained secure. The goal is not simply to fit a new bearing; it is to avoid repeating a lubrication, contamination or alignment condition.

Photograph the wear band

Include both the follower and the track. A one-sided band can help identify a geometry or alignment question.

Record cleaning and relubrication

State how often lint is removed and how frequently the follower can be inspected or lubricated.

Check the complete envelope

D*, thread and outer-ring width are the first measurements, followed by stud/shoulder dimensions and available service access.

Identify machine function

Feed, traverse, winding and other cam mechanisms can have different motion profiles. Name the mechanism and include cycle information when available.
