Lubrication starts with the installed environment
A clean, moderate-speed automation mechanism and a contaminated packaging line do not need the same service plan. Identify the operating cycle, temperature, contamination, cleaning chemicals and access for relubrication before choosing a grease or interval. Follow the ordered bearing configuration and machine builder’s instructions where they are available.
What to inspect
During planned maintenance, check the outer ring and mating track for surface distress, unusual polish bands, edge contact and debris. Listen for changes in noise and feel for roughness only when the machine is isolated and safe to handle. Inspect the stud mounting and surrounding hardware for movement or fretting.
When a replacement is more than a bearing change
Repeated early failure can point to a misaligned track, overload, poor surface condition, inadequate lubrication or an incorrect replacement envelope. Record the failed part marking, dimensions and wear pattern. That information helps separate a model-selection problem from a machine-condition problem.
