EP-KR / EP-KRV selection guidance for high-cycle packaging machinery with repeated cam motion, lubrication and impact considerations.

Packaging machinery can subject a cam follower to thousands of repeated motion cycles during indexing, transfer, sealing, filling or cartoning operations. the application requirements identifies EP-KR22 through EP-KR47 as the main screening range and highlights three practical concerns: high-speed reciprocating motion, grease life and impact. That combination makes the condition of the cam track and the maintenance routine just as important as the nominal bearing size.

Three packaging-duty questions to resolve

How repetitive is the motion?

Repeated acceleration and reversal can create a different service pattern from continuous rotation. Record the machine cycle rate and whether the follower sees dwell, reversal or abrupt changes in contact.

How is grease retained and serviced?

Grease life is one of the main selection priorities in repeated-cycle packaging mechanisms. Note whether the mechanism can be relubricated and whether product residue, washdown or packaging dust reaches the track area.

Does the mechanism see impact?

An impact or shock event may occur at a cam transition, jam or indexing stop. Describe those events instead of selecting only by outside diameter.

Maintenance clues worth checking before replacement

Uneven outer-ring wear

A narrow or shifted contact band can point to track alignment or mounting geometry. Photograph the worn ring and the cam surface before replacing the part.

Grease loss or contamination

Record whether grease is being expelled, washed away or contaminated by dust/product residue. This can change the preferred sealing and maintenance discussion.

Stud and shoulder fit

Confirm D*, C, stud thread and the B/B1/B2/B3 envelope from the machine drawing. Two followers with similar outside diameter may not fit the same mounting geometry.

Service interval and cycle rate

Tell us how long the line runs between planned stops. A bearing that is hard to inspect or relubricate may need a different maintenance approach even when the size is unchanged.
