Eccentric Cam Followers: When Adjustment Is Useful

Engineering & procurement guidance

Adjustment can solve an installation problem—when the design supports it

Some stud type cam followers are offered with an eccentric collar or eccentric mounting feature so the outer-ring position can be adjusted relative to the mating track. This can help take up installation tolerance or set contact. It is a configuration feature, not something to assume from every KR or KRV model name.

What to identify on the existing part

Look for the complete marking and the geometry around the stud shoulder. Measure the main envelope and note how the part is oriented during adjustment. If the old machine drawing calls out an eccentric amount or adjustment procedure, include that document with the RFQ.

Do not use adjustment to hide a track problem

An eccentric feature can position the follower, but it cannot repair a damaged or mis-machined track. Check the contact band through the full motion and investigate repeated edge loading, binding or unexpected clearance before replacing parts.
