A bearing that runs on the track
A cam follower is a compact rolling bearing built so its outer ring can run directly against a cam, guide or track surface. In stud type designs, the mounting stud is part of the bearing. This is different from a conventional bearing whose outer ring is normally supported inside a housing bore.
Why the outer ring is substantial
The outer ring is exposed to direct contact with the mating track, so its geometry and the contact condition matter. The EP-KR / EP-KRV family shown here uses needle-roller construction and a threaded stud format. For a replacement, check the outside diameter, outer-ring width, stud thread and the longitudinal stud dimensions together.
Where engineers use them
Cam-driven packaging stations, machine-tool mechanisms, guided transfer equipment and factory automation are common examples. In each case, the follower turns rolling contact into repeatable motion along a defined path. The right selection depends on radial duty, track geometry, speed, lubrication and installation accuracy.
